Government, trade, and economic integration

Article Abstract:

An understanding of the implications of economic integration depends on a knowledge of protectionism and the political economy of trade policy. A multilateral trading system appears to be in the best interests of the US, but many of its policies deal with bilateral arrangements. Policymakers may have lost sight of the US' best interests as interest groups promoting protection have removed trade policy from the field of the public good. Economists must evaluate bilateral policies and increase politicians' costs of working with special interest groups.

Trade policy and economic development: how we learn

Article Abstract:

Economic growth in developing countries can be attributed to better application and comprehension of economic policies from research and exposure to development and development policy. Changes in ideas and trade policy such as outer-oriented trade regimes and uniform incentives for manufacturing tradable goods are necessary catalysts for improved economic growth. Research continues to play an indispensable role in policy formation and changing the consensus with regard to trade policy and development.
