Historical and comparative institutional analysis

Article Abstract:

A novel approach in analyzing economics, called historical and comparative institutional analysis (HCIA), was developed in an attempt to address complex organizational issues. The approach makes use of context-specific micro models necessary in conducting empirical analysis and determining various constraints that influence social interaction. The concept underlying HCIA centers on two lines of analysis, including the impact of internalization of traits and the implication of strategic interactions and cultural factors, including beliefs, cognition and social structure.

Cliometrics after 40 years

Article Abstract:

Cliometrics, which originated in 1957, unites economic theory and quantitative analysis to enhance economics and history. It advances research on economic history using economic theory and quantitative analysis. It also uses history to enhance the understanding of long-run economics and to assess and provoke economic theory. Cliometricians, however, are limited by the dominant economic theory and the constraints of computing and statistical tools. The relaxation of these constraints, starting around 1982, created challenges and opportunities to cliometrics.

Cliometrics - 40 years later

Article Abstract:

The works of Alfred Conrad and John Meyer in 1957 and 1958 marked the emergence of cliometrics. Cliometrics contributes to economics and the understanding of the past by using advanced quantitative analysis and economic theory to study economic history. This contribution is first limited by the neo-classical theory used. However, from 1977 to 1997 changes in economics and among economic historians present more promise and challenge to cliometrics.
