How successful are business retention and expansion implementation efforts?

Article Abstract:

A survey measured the benefits derived from implementing business retention and expansion strategic plans. Responses from visited firms reported by four states included in the research project rated BR&E programs categorically as: very beneficial, beneficial, no impact to date, harmful and very harmful. Of the more than 72% of the plans implemented by respondents, 20% were reported very beneficial and 52% beneficial, 27% no impact to date and less than 1% very harmful.

The existing business development program of Danville and Vermillion County, Illinois

An Existing Business Development Program introduced by the Danville Area Economic Development Corp in Illinois is an effective tool in the state's economic development initiatives. The program relies heavily on initial and vital information taken from an existing firm. Business surveys precede formulation and existence depends on timely follow-ups relative to problems and opportunities. Networking is also paramount coupled with a strong leadership and commitment.

The competitive advantage model: the case of business retention and expansion in Bowling Green, Ohio

Article Abstract:

The Competitive Advantage Model of business retention and expansion adopted by the City of Bowling Green, OH, proved beneficial to four manufacturing industry participants. In six months, internal and external benefits were reaped by the four participants in terms of employee empowerments, cost reductions, outreach programs, delivery systems and marketing strategies. Environmental concerns were also addressed during the implementation period.
