IPR in multimedia and the multimedia challenge

Article Abstract:

Protection of multimedia technology is complex because the works are easily copied without discernable differences, interactive works change with each user, combined businesses have contradictory practices and information is transmitted globally. Copyright, trademark, patent and confidential information protections under United Arab Emirates' law are all inadequate to protect the new technology. The World Intellectual Property Organization is exploring options including required licensing of copyrighted works or excluding multimedia technology from moral rights protections.

Article Abstract:

Turkey has approved the sale and use of private security equipment and services, precipitating an increase in demand for modern, sophisticated safety and security equipment. The Turkish market for such equipment totaled about $47 million in 1996, according to US commercial specialists, but imports accounted for more than 90% of that total. The market has two major categories: security equipment and signaling equipment.
