Growth addresses poverty, unemployment, lack of financial support for education and health services, environmental degradation and inequality. Growth is an intrinsic component of consumerist capitalism, and theories that ignore this factor will prove unsuccessful under capitalistic structure.

Article Abstract:

Reform of the Australian economy will require extensive restructuring. Rather than reducing welfare or other benefits, the primary causes of poverty need to be addressed. Improving education and training will enhance equal opportunity for economic participation. Tax credits and reciprocal responsibility programs for the working poor will also raise socioeconomic participation.

The Third Way socioeconomic model fails to address the benefits of a free market system. Rather than use government size or income distribution as measurements of a humane society, liberty as promoted in an open economy provides a more accurate means of assessment. Under such a system, individuals are free to participate and advance.
