Incremental trade policy and endogenous growth: a q-theory approach

Article Abstract:

The effects of incremental trade liberalizations on long-term economic growth are analyzed by using a simple trade-and-endogenous-growth model wherein growth is driven by ceaseless product innovation. The model determines the static allocation of labor among different activities and the effects of policies on allocation. The results show that the effects of a liberalization growth depend on the initial level of protection and on the kind of protection. In addition, the findings of pervasive non-monotonicities in trade and growth links indicate that many empirical studies are mis-specified.

The causes of regionalism

Article Abstract:

Resurgent regionalism does not come about due to the negative reactions against the negotiation process of the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade nor it is due to the complicated trade barriers. Regional arrangements cannot take the place of multilateral liberalisation because regional liberalisation did not happened due to easy implementation of regionalism. Rather, resurgent regionalism occurred due to idiosyncratic events that multiplied due to a domino effect.

Investment creation and diversion in Europe

Article Abstract:

The impact of the European Union's Single Market program on investment creation and diversion in the region is examined using a modified version of the Haaland-Norman computable general equilibrium model. Empirical results show that the program may have resulted to investment creation in Portugal and Spain and investment diversion in European Free Trade Association countries.
