Incumbent behavior: vote-seeking, tax-setting, and yardstick competition

Article Abstract:

A model is developed where tax-setting in a political economy with several jurisdictions and the choices of voters and behavior of the incumbents are simultaneously determined. It is assumed that voters compare jurisdictions to prevent problems arising from political agencies. This results in competition among incumbents. State data from 1960 to 1988 are used in providing empirical evidence. A theoretical framework is also being provided.

Household resource allocation in stepfamilies: Darwin reflects on the plight of Cinderella

Article Abstract:

A study was conducted to analyze differences in food consumption between different kinds of two-parent families. Data from the Panel Study of Income Dynamics were utilized to carry out the analysis. The influence of family structure on food expenditure was also examined. Results indicated that the number of children in a household with a nonbiological parent significantly minimized expenditure on food consumed at home.
