Indonesian economic policies and performance, 1960-98

Article Abstract:

Indonesia's economic policies and growth performance since the 1960s were examined to determine whether performance had changed systematically with policy. It was observed that growth was much more rapid in the first deregulation period from 1966 to 1973 compared to the preceding period of stricter regulation from 1960-1966. Also, the deregulation period after 1986 to before the financial crisis of 1997, showed a better performance compared to the 1973-1986 period. Even when the collapse is considered, it is seen that deregulation leads to better performance.

The trade policy review of Japan

Article Abstract:

The GATT Trade Policy Review of Japan is an important source of information on the country's economy and trade policies and practices. It indicates that, since 1991, Japan has been striving to recover from the collapse of the domestic asset markets, the economic downturn and the appreciation of the yen. Fiscal and monetary policy stimuli introduced during this period have mostly failed to bolster the economy. However, there are indications that significant economic growth can be expected in 1996.

The trade policy review of Indonesia

Article Abstract:

The GATT Trade Policy Review of Indonesia is the best source of information on the country's trade policy in the first half of the 1990s. It reports that the Indonesian economic policy in recent years has been dominated by the implementation of a deregulation program. This has involved the elimination of tariff and non-tariff trade barriers, the liberalization of investments and the financial sector, and the reform of the tax system.
