Research is presented concerning the influence of geographical realities on the poor development of infrastructure in sub-Saharan Africa. The importance of air transportation in the improvement of economic competitiveness is discussed.

Issues are presented concerning the economic integration of the micro-states of the Caribbean region. The progress made towards integration in the 1980s and 1990s and a breakdown of trading activity in the Caribbean are discussed.
