Institution and inequality: the hukou system in China

Article Abstract:

Hukou system is a Chinese institution that controls the movement of population. The system restricts the rural population from accessing education and urban employment thereby creating an economic disparity between the urban and rural populations.

Wage inequality and between-firm wage dispersion in the 1990s: a comparison of rural and urban enterprises in China

Article Abstract:

The wage inequality and wage structures in rural and urban enterprises in China in late 1990s are examined and analyzed. These changes in wages are the result of restructuring of industries and privatization in that period.
