Is step-j thinking an arbitrary modelling restriction or a fact of human nature?

Article Abstract:

A tractable model was employed to examine models in the infinite class of 'step-v' rules which allow for non-integer values. The model was a mixture of Nagel's 1995 model of boundary rational players and a 'law of effect' learning model. Results, employing Occam's Razor, indicate that non-integer rules do not account for the data and that the integer rule is preferable.

Deductive versus inductive equilibrium selection: experimental results

Article Abstract:

The debate between the two schools of thought in equilibrium selection, deductive selection and inductive selection is discussed. An inductive selection principle based on simple learning dynamics is proposed and studies conducted by VHBB and Straub indicate that none of the main-stream deductive principles gave reliable predictions.

Population rule learning in symmetric normal-form games: theory and evidence
