Is there a hidden technical potential?

Article Abstract:

A significant number of technically-proficient people choose to take non-technical courses such as medicine and law rather than technical ones such as engineering and the natural sciences. This was revealed by a study that sought to discover the factors that determine entry into technical studies and persistence in such fields at the university level in The Netherlands. The study revealed that there was a low correlation between the likelihood of students choosing a technical field and the probability of persisting in such a field.

Enrolment in higher education in the Netherlands

Article Abstract:

Enrolment in higher education in the Netherlands was analyzed using three different economic models and using data for two comparative years. Data for 1982 shows that an integrated model combining the consumption and investment models exerted the biggest influence on enrolment. However, 1992 results indicated that the pure investment or future earnings model predominated. It was observed that the tuition fees and ability scores did not exert a strong influence on the number of enrollees.

Results reveal notable differences between the graduates' wage structurees from different university. In addition, the research indicate that earnings are not necessarily an important factor in choosing a specific university.
