Is there a retirement-savings puzzle?

Article Abstract:

Correlation of the post-retirement consumption patterns and the pre-retirement savings pattern showed that the dip in post-retirement consumption pattern is a function of information asymmetry, especially in terms of retirement income expectations, additional expenditures and allocation of retirement income. The dip in post-retirement consumption is also surmised to be a function of the retiree's social circle, which induces more information asymmetry that affects consumption behavior.
