Jordan's evolving financial sector: ongoing reforms enter 2nd phase

Article Abstract:

Jordan's banks have improved their services and achieved impressive growth, thanks to financial sector reforms initiated in 1989. Further reforms, to be instituted in 1997 and 1998, will focus on increasing competition in the financial sector. Since Jan 1, 1997, commercial banks have faced stricter capital and disclosure requirements. Information on Jordan's capital market and the role of foreign and international financial institutions in the country is included.

Kuwait national employment law

Article Abstract:

The provisions of the Kuwait National Employment Law, passed by Kuwait's National Assembly in 1999, are discussed. The law aims to encourage more people to enter private sector employment, thus reducing government payrolls and overstaffing.

Creating enough private sector jobs for Kuwaitis, and training enough Kuwaitis for the jobs

Article Abstract:

Moves in Kuwait to expand employment in the private sector are discussed. Particular attention is given to the training of people for private sector employment.
