Key factors in the success of a small economic development program: Randolph County, North Carolina Economic Development Corporation

Article Abstract:

The Randolph County Economic Development Corp. (EDC) was named one of the top ten economic development organizations in the US, Canada and UK in 1994 for attracting over $105 million in industrial investments in the county. Its success is attributed to a number of factors which include the absence of government appointees on the EDC board, emphasis on communications and focus on companies that have low-employment, high-investment and are environmentally friendly.
