Household cleaning hardware

Article Abstract:

The UK market for household cleaning hardware totalled 157 million pounds sterling in 1994, down 4% from 164 million pounds sterling in 1990. The leading sector is plastics hardware with a total value of some 86 million pounds sterling. Sales of brushes and brooms totalled 31.6 million pounds sterling, with household gloves sales remaining stable at 21.3 million pounds sterling. Leading players in the market include Addis, Plysu, Vileda and LRC. The market for household cleaning goods is forecast to grow from 159 million pounds sterling in 1995 to 183.6 million pounds sterling by 1999.

The UK market for household wraps and wipes totalled around 253 million pounds sterling in 1994, up 9% from 1990. The largest sector is refuse sacks/bin liners, with a 38% value share, followed by aluminium foil with 26% and polythene food bags with 9%. The kitchen wraps market is dominated by Alcan Consumer Products and Poly-Lina Ltd. The kitchen wipes market was worth 43.2 million pounds sterling in 1994, with the only large non-woven makers being Johnson & Johnson and Vileda. The kitchen wraps and wipes market is forecast to reach 277 million pounds sterling by 1999.

Article Abstract:

A statistical review of the UK market for kitchen wraps and wipes is presented. The study includes cloths used for wiping down kitchens in the home and wraps, such as greaseproof paper, bin liners, kitchen foil, cling film and plastic bags. It is anticipated the value of the UK market for the year 2000 will be worth 328 million pounds sterling in 2000.
