Labour export from Indonesia: an overview

Article Abstract:

The Indonesian government emphasizes labor export in its economic planning. The main issues of concern relate to the increasing trend of illegal migration to Malaysia and the problems faced by migrant women who are domestic helpers in Singapore, Saudi Arabia, and other countries. The role of recruiters in labor export is also raising concern. The government plans to open training institutes to raise the skill of labor exported, but the decision to reduce the export of unskilled workers may result in the loss of skilled workers, thereby affecting the economic and social development of the country.

Financial liberalization in Indonesia: interest rates, money market instruments, and bank supervision

Article Abstract:

Indonesia's key to fast economic growth may lie in its policies regarding financial liberalization. Financial liberalization has already encouraged financial deepening, increased the availability of credit, made market operation more effective and stimulated growth in private banking since it was first implemented in 1983. The role of positive interest rates in increasing savings and credit availability is also demonstrated through the cointegration method. It is suggested that the success of financial liberalization can be hampered by moral hazard and poor banking regulations.

Policy assignment on money supply: the case of Indonesia in the 1980s

Article Abstract:

Among the developing countries in Asia, Indonesia since the 1980s has taken strict measures in deregulating its financial sector, deregulation has helped in the adjustment of loanable funds needed for its investment. Indonesia has also been successful in checking annual inflation and keeping it below double digits. Investment in the long run necessitates the expansion of money supply and stabilizing price. The efforts of Indonesia in fighting 'double-track' targets on monetary policy and policy performance are also discussed.
