Local economic development process and government policy-making: an international perspective

Article Abstract:

Improvements made in the Egyptian economy can be greatly attributed to economic reforms instituted by the government. Investments in the Egyptian economy has improved dramatically due mainly to the passage of laws that promote better economic incentives to local and foreign investors, such as the Law 59 of 1979 (New Communities) and the Law 1 of 1973 (Tourism and Hotels). Policy changes instituted by the Egyptian government have also resulted to improvements in investors' confidence and real business opportunities.

"Successful partners": a promotion strategy for Scarborough businesses and the city of Scarborough

Article Abstract:

The 'Successful Partners' program has been developed to promote the city of Scarborough, Ontario, to businesses and potential investors as well as emphasize the cooperation between the city and its business community. The promotional program includes the design of the city lure brochure, the distribution of a business-to-business publication, the production of a video about the city and advertising in local and national publications.

City of Orem, Utah's revolving loan fund

Article Abstract:

The city of Orem, UT, established a revolving loan fund program in 1985 to provide business owners and entrepreneurs with a source of capital. Funding for the program was initially obtained from a portion of the city's Community Development Block Grant and the Economic Development Administration. The program was able to support Orem's economic development financing, create jobs and expand the local economy.
