Article Abstract:
Improving French-Spanish relations have been clouded by an incident in which a French naval patrol fired on two Spanish fishing boats caught violating French waters in the Bay of Biscay. Spanish protests have been vehement, despite French warnings against the growing practice of Spanish poaching in French waters. The French government supports Spain's entry into the European Economic Community (EEC) in 1986. Some of the traditional prejudices which divide the French and Spanish are mentioned.

Article Abstract:
Soviet leader Konstantin Chernenko will be exceedingly cautious in supporting any reforms of the Soviet economy. Many middle-level and senior Communist Party members and military officers oppose reform which may threaten their power. The Soviet GNP rose to about two per cent in 1983 under the modest reforms implemented by Andropov. The Soviet economic system is in need of massive reorganization and rejuvenation.

Article Abstract:
Sweden is exploring for natural gas in granite rocks, although this is not normally where it is found. They are pursuing a theory that primeval methane was trapped there as the earth was formed. Chemical and geological studies are being completed, but actual drilling would be costly.
