Managing economic change: lessons from New Zealand

Article Abstract:

A study was conducted to analyze economic reform efforts in New Zealand which were designed to further economic growth and minimize unemployment in the country. The country's slow response to the reform efforts was also examined based on an international context. Results indicated that New Zealand's sluggish response to the reform initiatives correlated with the country's micro- and macroeconomic problems. The success of the microeconomic reforms was significantly hindered by high interest rates and budget cuts associated with macroeconomic stabilization efforts.
