Market reform, division of labor, and increasing advantage of small-scale enterprises: the case of the machine tool industry in China

Article Abstract:

A study is made on the effect of market reform, the division of labor among enterprises, and the increasing advantage of small-scale enterprises on the machine tool industry in China. Restricting division of labor in a large state-controlled enterprise results in inefficiency and low productivity. Studies show that market reforms should focus on eliminating inefficient enterprises and promoting specialization in certain production processes. Inter-enterprise transactions and competition brought about by market reforms are integral part of any economic program.

Economic growth under a self-interested central planner and transition to a market economy

Article Abstract:

The Soviet-type economy is patterned as a self-interested planner to examine Soviet-type economic advancement and shift to a market economy. The self-interested planner prototype could be adjusted so as to realize additional perception into the short-run outcomes of transition. In the self-interested planner prototype, the state optimizes its own autonomous consumption and not the representative household's consumption.
