Measuring the impact of US research consortia

Article Abstract:

A research to examine the impact of the US Advanced Technology Program (ATM)-sponsored consortia on the ex-post research productivity of the firms participating in this research is presented. The findings reveal that there exists a positive association between the level of participation in research and the overall research productivity of the participants.

Knowledge sharing in cooperative research and development

Article Abstract:

A three-stage model is used to illustrate a learning effect of R&D consortia on welfare, which examines the effects of knowledge sharing or endogenous spillovers among R&D consortia participants. The results suggest that this type of R&D consortia is welfare enhancing, and qualify for government support on these projects.

The significant impacts on the joint patenting by alliance partners with the sharing of intellectual property rights are discussed. Formal R&D collaboration between the companies is one of the most popular reasons for forming alliances in many so-called high-tech industries and developing technical areas.
