Migration, remittances, and agricultural productivity in China

Article Abstract:

A study was conducted to analyze issues surrounding China's migration. The New Economics of Labor Migration framework was utilized to determine the complex linkages existing among migration, agricultural productivity and remittances in the country. Results indicated the need for policymakers to help other rural markets work more effectively. Moreover, determining the sources of labor-market-imperfections and rectifying them may help alleviate the negative influence of a migration-induced reduction in family labor.

Village leaders and land rights formation in China

Article Abstract:

An analysis of the roles of village leaders in land rights formation in China reveals that land rights variations between villages arise because of systemic differences in the way local authorities manage land resources. The study also points out that local leaders may pursue three objectives namely protection of personal interest, minimization of administrative cost or improvement of both equity and land use efficiency in remote areas.
