Money and labour power: Marx after Hegel, or Smith plus Sraffa?

Article Abstract:

Dixon and Kay criticise Marxist ideas on the labor theory of value, following on from ideas set out by Sraffa. They argue that there is a problem in seeing prices as linked to labor embodied in commodities, when labor itself is measured in terms of prices. There is a need to examine Marx's analysis pf capitalism in terms of the dialectic. Such a re-examination helps us to understand modern phenomena such as the power of the financial services industry.

Marxists on money, value and labour-power: a response to Cartelier

Article Abstract:

Marxist theory on the political economy has been affected significantly by comments regarding production and consumption. The basic links in the capitalist society is claimed to be fundamentally monetary and that fragmentation of production and separation of consumption requires the value-form. This interpretation of Marxist theory, however, shouldbe within the context of Hegelian philosophy.
