"One if by land and two if by sea...." (detecting signs of business failure)(Existing Business I)

Article Abstract:

Economic development professionals must be alert to early warning signs of critical business developments in the community that may have negative consequences. With advance knowledge, they can reduce or even avoid the adverse effects of company relocations, closures or downsizing, and provide the community with enough time to formulate strategies for dealing with these events. Indicators of trouble include declining sales, layoffs, and management's dissatisfaction with the local business environment.
