The United Kingdom retail market for writing instruments and personal stationery grew 8% to 401 million pounds sterling during 1990-1994, with growth of 4% anticipated in 1995 although sales will remain unchanged in real terms. Personal stationery accounts for 30% of the market by value, while writing instruments account for the remainder. The market for writing instruments reached 281 million pounds sterling in 1994, with Gillette the brand leader. The market is expected to maintain growth during 1995-1999. The market is analysed.
