Planning for risk and uncertainty in oil exploration

Article Abstract:

An approach for applying comprehensive valuation, planning and management control system on an oil exploration and production company to enable it to meet its reserve reporting requirements is presented. This involves an expansion of the Monte Carlo simulation approach for estimating hydrocarbon reserves. The utility of the approach for mining and other extractive businesses was also established.

Mintzberg on The Rise and Fall of Strategic Planning

Article Abstract:

An interview with Professor Henry Mintzberg, author of the book The Rise and Fall of Strategic Planning, is presented. Mintzberg discusses issues ranging from diversification, the strategy making process, mergers and acquisitions and valuable lessons from Japan. Mintzberg also cautions against formalized planning, which is usually procedural and inhibits the thinking processes of people.
