Pricing and access under national competition policy: the case of the natural gas pipeline sector

Article Abstract:

Deregulation of natural gas pipeline transportation is less likely to be as successful in Australia as in North America. Australian tariff policy is insufficient for promoting firm service, and should include arrangements for third party and spot access pricing. Australia also lacks an established gas pipeline network which would promote efficient pricing of excess capacity.

Fiscal policy in Australia and Southeast Asia: an overview

Article Abstract:

Tighter fiscal policy is recommended for both Australia and Southeast Asia to address macroeconomic issues. It would decrease speculative attacks on currency and lower the risk of capital outflow. It would also raise national saving, which would in turn produce greater intergenerational equity. Monetary tightening, however, would fail to address either of these issues.

The macroeconomic implications of current fiscal policy

Article Abstract:

A tight fiscal policy may be problematic for Australia's economic stability. Although short-term impact is not expected to be significant, long-term impact could be substantial due to supply-side implications. Cuts in government expenditure could create effective supply failure due to the connections between private output and public capital.
