Production, inventory and waiting time

Article Abstract:

A mathematical model in which demand relies on customers' waiting time and price of product or service was used to demonstrate the correlation of inventories, time, profits and demand. It was suggested that instead of changing the price of goods or service, customers' waiting time should be altered, as customers prefer paying more over having to wait longer. The benefits of having an inventory policy is also examined.

The roles of inventory and capacity in a two-period procurement setting are studied. The existence of strategic inventory depends on the inventory holding cost and the first period capacity of the supplier.

Article Abstract:

The market for the microcomputer industry in the United States from 1993 to 1995 is investigated. Evidence of nominal price rigidities that are caused by hierarchical delays are also offered.
