Productivity and organization in China's rural industries: a stochastic frontier analysis

Article Abstract:

A stochastic production frontier method is employed to determine the technical capability of Chinese township and village enterprises (TVEs) and modifications in that capability. It has been established that the standard technical capability level of the TVEs that were tested is similar to that of industrial enterprises in other developing nations. Moreover, TVEs are found to be more effective than the enterprises owned privately.
