Prospect for Russia's development: the role of the demographic factor

Article Abstract:

Analysis of demographic situation in Russia and the possible future effects on economy, politics and social areas are forecasted, warning the Russian society of the demographic challenges in the future. Low fertility and high mortality are some of the causes, which could lead to a decrease in the population size and a drastic change in the age pyramid.

Research presented concerns Russia's seven-year decline in population, and the population dynamics of reproduction and migration. Topics addressed include the changes in population from 1951-95, the low birth rates and high mortality rates responsible for decline, the age breakdown of the population, and forecasts of population growth.
