Testing for price anomalies in real-estate auctions

Article Abstract:

Condominium prices obtained through face-to-face bargaining were compared to those obtained at auctions. The data were gathered from an auction of 83 condominium units in 1990. The results revealed that the prices for condominium units sold through face-to-face bargaining were 13% lower than the prices of identical units sold at auction. Those who purchased condominium units early in the auction paid higher prices than face-to-face buyers.

The peace dividend in historical perspective

Article Abstract:

The decline in defense spending by the government as a result of the end of the cold war does not influenced the domestic spending in the US as expected. However, US financial history shows that the recent post-war events are normal and civilian spending, accounted for relative to GNP, has gone back to pre-war levels. The demand for the revival of economic situation has overcome the factors that caused the war-ratchet.
