Recommendations from a practical science conference

Article Abstract:

A conference held in May 1998 between the Mayor's office of Moscow, the Federation of Independent Trade Unions of Russia and the Institute of Economics of the Russian Academy of Sciences highlighted the current socioeconomic state within Russia including a decline in the standard of living, a rise in social tensions and differentiation of incomes. Topics include necessary changes, such as a change in economic policy; other topics include measures that should be taken for reform, legislative and regulatory documents to offer social guarantees and the development of social partnership.

The state of the social and labor sphere in the countryside

Article Abstract:

This article discusses institutional transformations in the Russian Federation since the 1990s, and provides an analysis of why denationalization of the agro-industrial complex has not had the expected impact. Issues include the state of the labor force market, standards of living among the rural population, problems in the social sphere, the demographic situation in the countryside, and the overall social well-being of rural inhabitants.

Participants of the Social Priorities and Mechanisms of Economic Transformation in Russia conference, held in May 1998, acknowledged the need to transform economic policy to a socially oriented market economy. Considerations include, a modern view of economic problems, the social priorities and moral values of the country, family relations and the preservation of science, health care and culture.
