Regional migration in Spain: the effect of personal characteristics and of unemployment, wage and house price differentials using pooled cross-sections

Article Abstract:

An empirical model based on time-series of cross-sections from a survey of the Spanish Labour Force between 1987 to 1991 is presented to analyze the effects of regional economic factors on the migration patterns of individuals. Factors such as life-cycles, education, and age were taken into account to explain their effects on the probability of migration. Results reveal that regional unemployment is a significant factor in migration which positively affects the unemployed and unregistered and negatively affects the registered.

Financial innovation and divisia monetary aggregates. Comment on Ford, Peng, Millineaux (1992)

Article Abstract:

Criticisms on the use of opportunity costs for assessing financial liquidity are unfounded. Such a view stems from an erroneous interpretation of the mathematical basis of the standard opportunity cost based weighting system. This error can be remedied by using conventional divisia weights instead of adjusted monetary terms. Consequently, the value derived from a Divisia monetary index, which is in turn used to characterize monetary balance, can be considered valid as this value is dependent on opportunity costs.

Exchange rates, non-traded goods and the terms of trade: an empirical application for New Zealand

Article Abstract:

The study proposes a new model of exchange rate determination for non tradable goods output for New Zealand, emphasizing its stability properties and analyzing an error correction framework for short-term exchange rate activities. Various tests reveal the measure to be an efficient representation of data and give credence for its focus on real determinants of nominal exchange rates such as disturbances in non-traded goods and terms-of-trade.
