Religion as paradigm

Article Abstract:

Efficient economic institutions can only be developed by preventing any defective behaviour which cooperative individuals perceive as exploitative. In his paper 'Religion as Paradigm', Margolis argues that the interactions between self-interest and social motivation is important to the creation of efficient economic institutions. He believes that institutional economics should focus more on social motivation. However, the strength of social motivation, and its interaction with self-interest, is not as important to institutional economics as the perception of exploitation.

Article Abstract:

The 14th Seminar on the New Institutional Economics in Jun 1996 provided many stimulating theories on the subject of Religion and Economics. The major topics which were discussed included the idea that rational choice can be applied to religion in many respects, and the importance of making a distinction between choices which are made for oneself and choices one must make oneself. New institutional economics must also acknowledge that economic theories and models depend on an anthropological framework with a universal scope.
