Reputation as a mechanism alleviating opportunistic host government behavior against MNEs

Article Abstract:

A study was conducted to examine the relationship between host governments and multinational business enterprises. The study assumes that host government interventions condition a firm's options, although these firms are not powerless in managing the intervention. Results show that government reputation affects opportunistic behavior. In addition, such behavior by the host government often leads to the withdrawal of firm investment.
