Britain's Thatcher Administration is beginning to plan policy for the next general election. Eighteen policy groups have been formed. The most important areas covered include trade-union reform, Soviet relations, defense, personal capital formations, urban and housing problems, education, and deregulation.

Tony Benn has been selected to stand as the Labor Party candidate in the Chesterfield by-election. Benn is very left-wing. The leadership of the party is not happy with the choice, but will have to support it.
