Saudi Arabia: WTO accession talks...

Article Abstract:

Saudi Arabia has expressed optimism about the prospects of its admission into the World Trade Organization. The Commerce Minister, Ossama al-Faqih, the head of the delegation that concluded a round of talks in Geneva, Switzerland, in mid-Sep 1998, added that there is no existing hindrance to the country's accession. The talks followed an earlier meeting in Jul 1998, and will be followed by another round of negotiations in Seattle, WA, by Nov 1999.

Saudi Arabia: sama launches first phase of new share-trading system

Article Abstract:

Saudi Arabian Monetary Agency (SAMA) has introduced the first phase of Tadawul, a new share-trading system that provides real-time trades. At first, only equities will be traded, but later upgrades will involve new settlement, depository, and trading rules in an open architecture.

Saudi Arabia lowers import duties

Article Abstract:

Issues concerning changes made in 2001 to the international trade policy of Saudi Arabia are discussed. Particular attention is given to lowering of duties imposed on import transactions aimed at complying with the conditions for entry in the World Trade Organization.
