Sensitivity to exogeneity assumptions in program evaluations

Article Abstract:

Researchers, studying the empirical effect of social programs, assume that, conditional on a set of observed covariates, assignment to the treatment is exogenous or unconfounded. An alternative approach, where the assumption exogeneity is explicitly relaxed by allowing for a limited amount of correlation between treatment and unobserved components of the outcomes, is explored.

Testing political economy models of reforms in the laboratory

Article Abstract:

The study of economic reform poses challenges to experimental economist and dialogue between political economist and the experimental economist can enable both sides to capture gains from trade. This gain is illustrated by using an experimental study that shows how individual-specific uncertainty can prevent efficiency-enhancing reform from taking place.
