Social comparisons and pro-social behavior: testing "conditional cooperation" in a field experiment

Article Abstract:

An experiment proving that people tend to co-operate for social objectives like voting, paying taxes, charitable donations etc., based on whether or not others are contributing towards such objectives is described. The need to conform or reciprocate prevalent in society is highlighted.

Pro-social behavior in a natural setting

Article Abstract:

The importance of pro-social behavior of individuals in an anonymous, n-person public good setting is stated, for which empirical evidence is provided. A unique panel data set of 1,36,000 observations are matched with an extensive survey.
