Investment in holiday homes abroad has been increasingly popular to United Kingdom residents. When not used by their owners, they are generally rented. This income is taxable on the gross rent income. Travelling to the investment and using expenses as deductions is scrutinized by the Inland Revenue. There is no tax relief on loan interest as the land is abroad. Laws in the three main countries for foreign home purchases by United Kingdom residents are discussed. Before purchasing a holiday home abroad comparisons of foreign regulations and United Kingdom tax codes should be analyzed.
