The influence of France's Finance Minister, Jacques Delors, is growing as well as his popularity with the French voters. He advocates economic austerity and has convinced President Mitterrand that this policy will lead to a reduction of inflation and a stronger French economy. Delors successfully handled the French truck drivers' strike in Febuary during the absence of prime minister Pierre Mauroy. Rumors allude to the possibility of Delors replacing Mauroy. Although there is strong indication of a change in the prime ministry, Mitterrand has not given any signs of who may be his choice.
