The competitive balance argument for mergers

Article Abstract:

An evaluation is presented on various merger scenarios and their potential effect on competition. It is posited that a firm's historical status, rather than its cost effectiveness, is a more certain indicator of the level of competition a merger would yield within an industry.

Mergers in financial services: why the rush?

An analysis is presented on the reasons behind bank mergers, along with the economic and social advantages and disadvantages they pose. It is argued that an outright ban on bank mergers may yield more negative than positive outcomes.
