The great East Asian capital flow reversal: reasons, responses and ramifications

Article Abstract:

A study was conducted to analyze whether international capital flows should be restricted in East Asia because of their unpredictable and volatile nature. The building-up and significant decline of international investment in the region were examined. Results indicated that the redirection of international investment on the world economy would lead to alternative export opportunities, thus, minimizing the contradictory influence of the Asian crisis on the world economy.

Globalisation and labour immiserisation in Australia

Article Abstract:

Globalization features that include financial deregulation, dissolving trade barriers, rapid diffusion of information technologies and highly-mobile capital were responsible for bringing the Australian economy into the borderless era. An analysis of these trends supports the conclusion that they are also responsible for an increasing disparity in wages. The disparity is further exacerbated by such factors as immigration, deunionization and female participation.

Inflation distortion of the external accounts: the Australian example

Article Abstract:

A procedure for adjusting current account imbalances (CABs) in domestic inflation is presented and applied to Australian economic data. Results show that domestic inflation causes an overestimation of nominal servicing payments for external liabilities. Inflation-adjusted external imbalance estimates determine imbalance based on zero inflation for reduced CAB estimation.
