The knowledge driven economy: fact or fantasy?

Article Abstract:

The United Kingdom government argues that knowledge is an importance resources in helping to boost the performance of the economy. Innovation can help countries retain a high standard of living, it is argued. The government's support for technology has fallen since the 1970s, and there is a case for supplementing this policy with a set of policies that boost growth and production. Demand would be boosted by investment, as would the ability to meet demand. Jobs could also be created for both skilled and unskilled workers.
