The structure of authority in the firm

Article Abstract:

Hierarchical authority structures in the firm are studied according to its properties. Beckman's theory on rank in organizations is applied to study the effect of the number of ranks, the average span of control at each rank and the ratio of the average wage of a person at a given rank on a firm's structure. Specifically involved are the structures of authority, efficiency of the structures and the operating cost and profit of the firm.
