Energy and stimulant drinks are marketed with strong emphasis on brand names. Red Bull stimulant drink increased its market share to more than energy drink Lucozade in 2000. Other companies in the competitive field include Britvic Soft Drinks Ltd. and Coca-Cola, the leading brand in the UK.

Energy drinks lost market share to stimulant drinks between 1996 and 2000, from 96.5% to 58.41%, although total sales increased in both categories. Red Bull accounted for a large sector of market growth. Sales of low-calorie stimulant drinks took off in early 2001 in the United Kingdom.
