New bankruptcy regulations

Article Abstract:

Saudi Arabia's bankruptcy law was strengthened, as the Regulations for Settlement to Prevent Bankruptcy, contained in the Council of Ministers Resolution No. 129, took effect on June 1, 1996. The Regulations allow individual or corporate merchant debtors to negotiate settlements with their creditors to avoid bankruptcy. However, the Regulations do not cover personal bankruptcies or those that are not related to business. The new regulations represent the most dramatic bankruptcy legislation in the country since 1931.
