U.S. wage-inequality trends and recent immigration

Article Abstract:

A study was conducted to analyze the premise that without taking into consideration the gains realized by recent immigrants, prior estimates of wage inequality trends do not fully portray the economic gains of all workers present in the US. An earnings concept, a population and a set of inequality measures were utilized to determine the 1979 wage levels of recent immigrants. Results showed that the increased wages of recent immigrants offset the relative wage losses of other workers at the lower portion of the wage spectrum.

In defense of inequality

Article Abstract:

The US economic condition has been characterized by a period of declines and increases in wage inequality. Opportunities for specialization abound during increases in dispersion. However, increases in educational wage premium have also promoted opportunities for improving the economic status of individuals and support eh establishment of educated job-market-entering cohorts. Finally, the decline of real wages has created incentives to look for work alternatives, such as anti-poverty programs.

Analyzing the fiscal impact of U.S. immigration

Article Abstract:

A study was conducted to analyze the fiscal impact of immigrants over time in the US. The generational accounting method was utilized to carry out the analysis. A number of assumptions about government purchasing were examined. The generational accounts of native and immigrant members of existing generations were then analyzed. Results indicated the effectiveness of the accounting technique in determining the size of the impact relative to the overall imbalance.
