Growing importance of gas means expanding market for imported equipment

Article Abstract:

Roughly $2.5 bil has been apportioned to develop and modernize the United Arab Emirates' gas field facilities by year 2008, showing the increasing importance of gas. New projects include the $1-bil second stage of an offshore development plan and the $1-bil second stage of offshore Khuff gas development. Moreover, the Gulf Cooperation Council member nations are reportedly studying a $1.5-bil joint gas distribution network.

An economy in transition: Bahrain is first GCC state to face the post-oil era

Article Abstract:

Bahrain becomes the first Arab state to undergo transition from oil to non-oil economy. The country undergoes transformation as Bahrain's oil field nears exhaustion with an expected productive life of about 15 years. The government tries to implement economic restructuring programs, such as the five-year economic development plan, to curb social and economic problems brought about by post-oil economic era.
